(Central New York – July 2014) Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Vincent Scalise, Executive Director of the Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center recently announced available resources for homeless Veterans in Utica and several surrounding counties. The announcement stems from the City of Utica’s participation in the “Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness” an initiative announced at the White House earlier last month by First Lady Michelle Obama, in which the Mayor was in attendance.

The Veteran’s Outreach Center currently administers the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs. This grant provides resources to Veterans who are homeless.

“As the First Lady stated; one homeless Veteran is far too many, and it is imperative that we do everything we can to help those who have sacrificed so much for us,” Mayor Palmieri stated. “There are services available to our Veterans and we need to do everything we can to enhance awareness. I thank the Veteran’s Outreach Center for their great work in addressing this problem and I look forward to continue working with them.”

Vincent Scalise stated, “Our goal is simple. It’s to end homelessness among Veterans in our area, and to provide much needed resources to those in need.”

The Veteran’s Outreach Center’s main office is in Utica, but it has satellite offices in Watertown and soon to open in Herkimer. They serve seven counties including Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Lewis, and Jefferson.
