(Cazenovia, NY – March 4, 2015) Commander Richard J.  Benner of the Cazenovia American Legion Post 88 has announced that John J. Mott is Post 88’s candidate for the Department of New York’s Legionnaire of the Year Award. Each American Legion Post in New York State, as well as in other States,  submit a resume on their candidate to their County  judges who decide which candidates will be evaluated by their District and finally by their State for this National Award. Recognition is given to the successful candidates as they proceed along this evaluation path to the National American Legionnaire of the Year Award.

“Jack is well positioned in this competition as he has a powerful force of energy as he goes about doing good for the Legion and the community,” Benner said. “He has a driving principle that if he sees something that needs to be done, he gets it done now!”

Over the past four years Mott has served as Post Commander and he continues to serve as Sergeant at Arms. His diversity of skills is evident in his Post activities that range from construction supervision to team building and public relations. No job was below his station even if it meant cleaning of floors and rest rooms he would be on the job.

You would see him and his wife Ann caring for the plantings surrounding the Post’s Garden of Honor.  He was on the job when roof replacement was needed and water damage had to be repaired in the basement.  He was always involved in helping other Post members with their projects such as setting up a community program for flag purchases or developing a flag retirement program with the Cazenovia Boy Scout Troop 18.

Mott was always on the job and no endeavor was launched without his involvement and standing side by side with his fellow Post members.

Mott served in the U. S. Navy from 1961-1965 during the Vietnam War.  He had a military order of service as a Boiler Technician Second Class on the Aircraft Carriers  U.S.S. Antietam and U.S.S. Essex.

He resides with his wife Ann on Mosley Road in Cazenovia.
