(Oneida, NY- Aug. 17, 2015) Oneida City Police and Fire responded to a one car fatal motor vehicle accident on Fairview Avenue at about 11:40 p.m. yesterday.
The driver, Ellen Caswell, 31, of Fairview Avenue, Oneida was traveling west on Fairview Avenue in a 2002 Jeep when she crossed over into the east bound lane, returned to the west bound lane and went off the north side of the roadway striking an utility pole causing the vehicle to flip over and come to rest on its side in a farm field. She was deceased at the scene.
A 10 year old passenger was taken to Oneida Health Care Center and air lifted to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with internal injuries and severe head trauma. She later succumbed to her injuries.
A 5 year old passenger appeared uninjured but was taken to the Upstate Hospital in Syracuse as a precaution to be checked out.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The deceased was taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Accident reconstruction was completed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit.
