Our library is alive with color this March and April with the Perra Comings Art Sale. Perra and her husband Bob passed away in 2007 and 2014 respectively. It was the family’s wish that her artwork be donated to the Canastota Public Library. While the library will be keeping several of Perra’s works in our collection, many of her paintings and sketches will be available for purchase during this two-month sale. All the proceeds from these sales will benefit the Library Endowment Fund to be used in future projects at the library.

Perra’s work last adorned the walls of the library in December of 1999. Comings work is well known in Canastota. Perra was involved with art from the time she was a young child in the south. As a youth, she won a state contest for a fire prevention poster that she completed in pen and ink. She attended the Fashion Institute of NYC as a young adult. She also designedchenille bedspreads until World War came along. While working for the State department in Germany after the war, Comings tried her hand at oil painting and worked in the medium for many years. She took classes and workshops and became proficient in acrylics and watercolors.

The prices of the paintings will be listed near the work. Please notify a library staff member is you are interested in adding any of these to your personal collections. The paintings and sketches will be on display through April and may be viewed during regular library hours Monday through Saturday.

The library is very grateful for the loving memorial that the Comings family has made possible through this generous gift. We hope you will stop by and visit the art exhibit.
