Mohawk Valley Roller Derby will be hosting and playing in the North American Qualifiers of Men’s Roller Derby. On Aug. 17 and 18, 2019, leagues from across the U.S. and Canada will descend on Rome to play for a spot in the Men’s Roller Derby Association Championships.

Eight teams will come to Rome, but only two will leave with a chance to win it all.

The first whistle is 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena, 500 W. Embargo St., Rome; doors open at 8 a.m.

This is a two-day tournament with six games played each day. Tickets are $25 per day or $40 for a weekend pass; they can be purchased at the door or online via Brown Paper Tickets.

The teams participating are Rome’s very own Mohawk Valley Roller Derby, Denver Ground Control, Lane County Concussion (Eugene/Springfield, Ore.), Philadelphia Hooligans, Austin Anarchy, Chicago Bruise Brothers, Race City Rebels (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Toronto Men’s Roller Derby.

Mohawk Valley Roller Derby is comprised of skaters from across central New York, including Rome, Utica, Oneonta, Albany and more. MVRD is currently ranked 13th in the world, and this will be their second appearance at the North American Qualifiers.
