The Great Swamp Conservancy of Canastota is hosting the Federal Duck Stamp Exhibit from Aug. 26 through Sept. 15, 2019, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This exhibit has been traveling all over the United States, and the GSC is honored to have this display.

In its 86th-year history (since 1934) the Duck Stamp has been a vital conservation tool. The original artwork of first-, second- and third-place winners and 17 runners-up are here in Canastota for all to enjoy.

Whether you are a hunter, artist, stamp collector, bird watcher, refuge visitor, conservationists or outdoor enthusiast the purchase of an annual Duck Stamp is a simple and effective way to contribute to habitat conservation. The Duck Stamp has raised over $1 billion dollars which are dedicated to conserving important wetland habitats. Your purchase of this stamp will not only allow you to hunt ducks but protects lands that are home to hundreds of species of plants, mammals, fish, amphibians, insects, and many wetland and grassland birds. It’s not just wildlife that benefits. Wetlands acquired with Duck Stamp dollars help purify water, aid in flood control, reduce erosion/sedimentation, and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities.

Approximately 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion into the National Wildlife Refuge System—a fact that ensures this land will be protected and available for all generations. Possession of the most recent Duck Stamp provides free admission into all National Wildlife Refuges also.

Along with the Federal Duck Stamp exhibit, the public can view other types of artwork by fellow members of the Great Swamp Conservancy’s Art and Nature Club and the Swamp Snappers Camera Club. The local talent displayed by members of both clubs is an amazing collection of nature’s landscapes and wildlife.  Come and learn about these 3 exciting works of art, promoting conservation. Certain photos and art pieces are offered for sale. This is open to the public for all ages, free of charge.
