The Rosamond Gifford Zoo announces a new Pic of the Month contest to highlight the zoo’s animals in all seasons, year-round.

The zoo is inviting the public to submit their photos taken at the zoo — one per person per month — to a monthly contest for recognition and prizes.

The contest period officially starts Oct. 1, 2019. Photographers taking photos in October will have until Nov. 3 to submit one photo to be considered for the October Pic of the Month.

The zoo will select the winning Pic of the Month for October and announce it Nov. 5. Find the submission form here.

The zoo will continue the contest monthly, with a winner announced on the fifth of each month among photos taken the previous month. Each monthly winner will receive a plush animal from the zoo gift shop and two guest passes to the zoo, and their photo will be displayed on the zoo’s social media, website and in MyZoo Magazine.

Photos may be captured with a smart phone, but must depict zoo animals at their best in a caring, respectful manner. Photos may only be taken from public pathways at the zoo.

The zoo is not offering a discount for participants in the Pic of the Month contest. Onondaga County Parks has expanded the former Winter at the Zoo Photo Contest to include all Onondaga County Parks, including the zoo, and will hold the parks-wide Winter Photo Contest in the month of January. The county parks contest allows visitors to any park, including the zoo, to gain free admission by bringing a camera (one per person) to take pictures for the winter contest during January.

The zoo decided to start its own monthly contest to run year-round to feature photos of its animals in all seasons. The zoo is open 362 days a year and only closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Days.
