(Morrisville, NY – Jan. 12, 2013) The Morrisville State College men’s basketball team improved to 8-4 overall Saturday afternoon, topping the visiting Lancaster Bible College Chargers by a 72-57 final in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 3-1 in conference play, while Lancaster Bible falls to 1-13, 1-5 in NEAC action.
Junior guard Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with 20 points, adding six rebounds and two assists to his tallies. Teammate Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a double-double for the Mustangs, netting 16 points while registering a collegiate high 11 steals. Williams controlled the glass with seven rebounds, adding three assists. Mickey Davis (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 11 points.
Dan Karl led the Lancaster Bible efforts with 23 points, tallying 21 in the second half. Corey Leonard chipped in eight points and posted seven rebounds, while Nick Monroe dished out five assists.
Despite a poor shooting first half, Morrisville State held the 28-27 advantage at the break, and capitalized on five Lancaster Bible turnovers to build up an eight point lead minutes into the second.
A jumper by Davis with 14 showing on clock gave the Mustangs a 10 point lead but two straight field goals from Karl brought the Chargers within striking distance, cutting the margin to a narrow five.
Morrisville State went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to regain their double digit lead, increasing it to as many as 19 as they posted the conference win.
The Mustangs return to the court Wednesday, Jan. 16 traveling to SUNY Cobleskill.
