(Hamilton, NY – Jan. 14, 2013) The Colgate men’s hockey team was off this past weekend, but the Raiders were able to stay in the USCHO.com National Poll at No. 20 after dropping a spot from last week.
Colgate was last in action against Sacred Heart and outscored the Pioneers, 15-2, in the pair of games at Starr Rink. This is the third week this season that Colgate earned a spot in the top 20 as the Raiders got to No. 20 after beating UMass before the holiday break.
ECAC Hockey is well-represented in the poll with six teams in the top 20. The Raiders are also earning votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll with 12 votes. They are on the second-longest winning streak in the country, behind UMass Lowell, who has seven wins in a row.
The offense has been a main reason for the streak with 31 goals in five games for an average of 6.1, which puts the Raiders third in the nation in scoring at 3.6 goals per game. Colgate has also jumped up the rankings in power play percentage at 21.3 for 12th in the nation.
The Raiders will have their hands full this weekend with visits to Rensselaer and No. 17 Union. The Engineers tied No. 5 Quinnipiac last weekend and almost ended the Bobcats’ 14-game unbeaten streak, which is now at 16 games. Union edged Princeton, 3-2, on Friday night and lost by the same score to Quinnipiac the next night.
Game times are set for 7 p.m.
