(Morrisville, NY – Jan. 30, 2013) Visiting Keuka College women’s basketball came from behind in the second half to hand host Morrisville State College a 65-48 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss Wednesday night in Morrisville.
Nijee Scott (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with 13 points, while collecting three assists and four rebounds on the night. Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine, while Akiella Parks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the efforts on the glass, snagging a high 11 rebounds.
Keuka had four notch double figures, led by Danielle Gravel with 17. Jessica Bandrowski added 14, registering three assists and five steals, while teammates Casey Chamberlain and Mariah Mouzon rounded out top scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively, each registering seven rebounds apiece.
Keuka raced out of the gates early on and posted a 14-0 lead before Scott came off the bench and posted the Mustangs first points on the night on a layup down the center of the paint, and Kamilla Ferguson (Willingsboro, N.J.) hit a turnaround jumper for two quick scoring plays. Keuka’s offensive attack, however, increased to as many as 16 over the next four minutes as Morrisville State continued to struggle from the floor.
Scott capitalized on a Storm turnover, converting a three-point play, igniting a 24-3 Mustang run to close out the half leading 31-26 at the break.
In the second, Morrisville State maintained the slim advantage over Keuka until the Storm took advantage of three straight Mustang turnovers to regain the two point lead with 10:38 to go.
Morrisville State hit a scoring drought over the next seven minutes, while Keuka put together a 20-0 run, regaining the double digit lead.
The Mustangs were able to cut the deficit to eight with just under five minutes remaining on the clock, but Keuka outlasted the hosts for the conference win.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, traveling to Gallaudet.
