(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 18, 2013) Gordon Santry’s continued solid play in goal for Colgate men’s lacrosse earned him Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
The freshman from Chestnut Hill, Mass., owns a pair of victories in as many starts for the 10th-ranked Raiders. The latest was a 13-7 triumph Saturday at Vermont, where Santry and the Colgate defense limited the Catamounts to just two goals in the second half to help snap a 5-5 tie.
“Gordon settled down and made some big saves in the second half when we needed him to make them,” Raiders head coach Mike Murphy said.
Santry in the game faced 30 Vermont shots and finished with nine saves. He held the Catamounts scoreless on five extra-man opportunities.
For the season, Santry owns 9.85 goals-against average and .524 save percentage, with 22 saves against 67 shots.
RAIDERS RANKED 10TH: Colgate bumped up one spot to 10th in this week’s Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, matching their position for the second straight coaches poll ranking from the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
The Raiders are off to a 2-0 start for the second year in a row and visit Dartmouth this Saturday in a 1 p.m. start. Last year, Dartmouth defeated Colgate 9-6 in Hamilton.
The last time Colgate began a season with three consecutive wins was 1993.
