(Town of Sullivan, NY – March 2013junior boys champions) On Saturday, March 16, the SCC held the March Madness Basketball Tournament for the Junior Boy’s League. It was an exciting day at the Lake Street Gymnasium; all the teams came with their “A” game. We had a large number of bracket-busters in this year’s tournament.

The Cinderella team this year was the Gray Squirrels who were coached by Eric Young and Scott Barnard. They entered the tournament as the #6 seed and they came to play! Their first game ended up with the Gray Squirrels defeating the #3 seed. It was a very close game and came down to an exciting finish, the Gray Squirrels came out on top with a 30 to 24 victory.

The Gray Squirrels moved on to their next opponent – Team Black Out, seeded at #2. This was the playoff to watch! The crowd was enthusiastic and the gymnasium was packed with energy. The game was back and forth the entire time, and the contest ended up going into double overtime!

With 30 seconds left, the Gray Squirrels were able to grab a rebound and rush it down the court for a lay-up, which gave them a 31-to-29 victory.

With that win, the Gray Squirrels advanced to the championship game, facing off against the #1 seed, The Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were coached by Brian O’Connor and Tim Moon. Nick Lasnicki was their leading scorer, with 15 points.

The Hurricanes were determined to win, and they were tenacious with their rebounding and their defense. The willpower of the Hurricanes secured the championship for them with a 33-to-20 victory over the Gray Squirrels.

I would like to thank all of the coaches who volunteered this year; you helped make this season a great experience for the kids and the community as a whole. I would also like to thank the Chittenango School District for accommodating and hosting all of the basketball practices and games.
