(Hamilton, NY – March 27, 2013)  Brittany Phillips reached plenty of milestones in her final year as a member of the Colgate women’s hockey team.

The senior assistant captain reached her most notable achievement Feb. 10, when she became only the sixth Colgate women’s hockey player to record her 100th career point. She finished the season with 108 career points, placing her fourth all time in the Colgate records book.

“I couldn’t be happier for Brittany for reaching that 100 point milestone this season,” head coach Greg Fargo said. “It’s easy for most people to look at the stat sheet night after night and see her name on it. But, what most people don’t see is how hard she competes on a daily basis – on the ice in practice, during individual sessions, in the video room, and in the weight room.

“She’s earned everyone of those points and they came through a lot of hard work over the past four years. She’s so dedicated to being a great player and was willing to do whatever she needed to do to get our team to the playoffs this year. She certainly did her part in our team’s success and these points certainly did not come by accident”

Not only did Phillips play in 135 games in a Raiders jersey, she also left her mark in program history throughout those four years. This season alone she broke Colgate’s record for power play goals in a season by tallying nine. Phillips tied for fifth all-time with 18 goals in a season as well.

This past year, the Launder, Manitoba, native lifted the Raiders to their first post-season berth in two years. In their quarterfinal best-of-three game series with No. 2 ranked Cornell on March 1-2, Phillips’ two goals were key in keeping the Raiders in the contest.

“Brittany would be the first to tell you that for her, this season was a great way to “go out” at Colgate,” Fargo added. “She had one of her best seasons of her individual career and she was a big part of our team success. She played in every type of situation for us down the stretch when we needed our best players to be their best and I thought Brittany just continued to improve as our season wore on.”

She kicked off Friday’s matchup scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period to put the Raiders ahead 4-3 on their nationally ranked opponent. She then followed that up on Saturday scoring the game’s first goal, giving the Raiders the early 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, her season came to an end that weekend as Cornell rallied late to steal both wins away from Colgate. Even as her collegiate playing career came to an end, she had already etched her name plenty of times into Colgate hockey history.

Phillips finished her career tied for first with 27 power play goals, third with nine game-winning goals, third with 57 goals, and tied for ninth with 51 assists.

She notched a career-high seven points against Lindenwood on Oct. 20, 2011, to set a Colgate single-game record since the program moved to Division I during the 2001-02 season. In that game, she recorded two goals and five assists in Colgate’s 8-2 win over the Lions.

“My hope for her, and all of our seniors, is that she can look back and be proud of what she did as a leader of this year’s team” Fargo said. “She was a big part of getting Colgate back on the map in terms Women’s Hockey and she helped lay the groundwork for what we hope to build on in the years to come.”

Phillips graduates in May as a geology major with a minor in geography, but her legacy will live on in Colgate hockey history forever.
