(Grasonville, Md. – April 2, 2013) Higher third-round scores ended up working in Colgate’s favor Tuesday as the Raiders bumped up one position and finished 20th at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational.

Seventeen of the 24 teams competing posted their highest round on the tournament’s final day as windy conditions prevailed over the Prospect Bay Country Club course. Colgate was one of those teams, carding a 338 to finish at 118-over-par 982.

The top four finishing teams and all five atop the individual leaderboard also saved their highest scores for last. William & Mary held on to win both trophies, scoring a 24-over-par 888 for the week led by Jeremy Wells’ even-par score of 216. The Tribe were 17 over for Tuesday’s round and Wells shot 76, or four strokes higher than his previous high score.

Loyola (Maryland) finished second at 913, followed by Rutgers at 914, Indiana (Pennsylvania) at 918 and Central Connecticut State, which climbed four spots to place fifth at 931.

Colgate’s third-round scores were nearly identical to one another, with Will Delano shooting 83, Zenon Bishop 84, Alex Lagowitz 85 and Michael Grayson 86 to complete the team scorecard. Chase Newman added 91.

Delano posted a 43-40 result, rallying for a pair of birdies over his second nine holes. The senior captain finished in 83rd place at 28-over 244.

Bishop and Lagowitz tied for 84th place at 29-over 245. Bishop had the team’s best second nine of the day, shooting 39 after an opening 45. Lagowitz shot 41-44 behind seven pars.

Grayson birdied the par-5 18th hole for the first time this week and shot 42-44 to finish in a tie for 94th place at 32-over 248. Newman also registered seven pars en route to his 47-44 scorecard. The freshman finished in a tie for 114th place at 49-over 265.

Colgate has a quick turnaround for its next tournament, the Yale Spring Opener that takes place Saturday in New Haven, Conn. The Course at Yale hosts the one-day, 36-hole event.
