(Morristown, NY – April 6, 2013) Visiting Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse used a triple offensive threat to hand host College of St. Elizabeth a 19-6 conference loss Saturday afternoon in Morristown.

With the win, Morrisville State improves to 2-5 overall, collecting their first win in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action, while the Screaming Eagles drop to 4-2 overall, 0-1 in NEAC play.

Morrisville State put together a potent offensive attack behind five scores each from midfielders Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) and Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) along with attack Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.), with Wood adding two assists. Meghan Soto (Jamaica, N.Y.) added two tallies, while Kolleen Brown (Willet, N.Y.) and Megan Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.) rounded out scoring with one each.

Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) posted the win in net, making six stops.

St. Elizabeth’s Meghan Murray, the national Division III leader in goals scored per game (7.0), was held to just three tallies on the day. Barbara Beresova posted 11 saves in the loss in goal.

Morrisville State got out of the gates quick with two consecutive tallies by Wood and jumped out to a 4-0 advantage before St. Elizabeth was able to put one on the board. The Mustangs added six additional tallies to the Eagles one, closing out the opening half with a 10-2 advantage at intermission.

In the second, St. Elizabeth posted two within the first three minutes of the half, but Edmondson took the wind out of their sails, posting three straight, including two within 11 seconds, regaining the near double digit lead for Morrisville State.

Morrisville State dominated the Eagles in shots, 39-16, and won the draw control battle 18-9.

The Mustangs return to the field Sunday at Penn State Abington.
