COLGATE C-GATE(New Haven, Conn. – April 7, 2013) Colgate senior Will Delano turned in a bounce-back performance Saturday at the Yale Spring Opener, posting a top-25 finish with a pair of rounds in the 70s.

Delano shot 76-77—153 for his sixth top-25 result this season in eight starts. It was the senior captain’s first such finish since he posted five top-25s in a row to begin the fall season. Last week at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, Delano finished 83rd.

A tie for fifth at the Colgate Invitational and a tie for seventh at Lehigh’s tourney are Delano’s top results this year. The Lehigh showing in October took place at Saucon Valley Country Club, site of this year’s Patriot League Tournament on April 27-28.

Colgate as a team finished 12th Saturday with a 36-hole score of 77-over-par 637.

Alex Lagowitz and Zenon Bishop scored in both rounds for the Raiders. Lagowitz shot 82-78—160 to finish in a tie for 52nd place at 20 over par, while Bishop carded 84-79—163 to tie for 56th at 23 over.

Chase Newman turned in Colgate’s low round of the day with an afternoon 5-over-par 75. Newman opened with 89 to finish in a tie for 58th place at 24-over 164. Jake Caldwell opened with 86 to score for the Raiders in the morning round. His afternoon 82 left the senior in a tie for 65th place at 28-over 168.

Villanova captured the team trophy with a 23-over-par total of 583. Yale was second at 592, followed by Hartford at 597 and both Temple and Princeton at 598. Princeton’s Bernie D’Amato captured medalist honors with a 1-over-par 141.

Colgate has an open week before returning to the course April 20-21 at the Navy Spring Invitational.
