(Aurora, NY – April 7, 2013) Visiting Morrisville State College softball collected their first win of the 2013 season, topping host Wells College 7-3 in the first of Sunday’s doubleheader action, before falling 12-4 in the second.

Morrisville State (1-9, 1-3 NEAC) heads into their next double Wednesday at Cazenovia.

Three Mustangs went 2-for-4 from the plate in the first of the day’s action, including Tori Schultz (Camden, N.Y.) who posted a double in the opening inning, driving in two runs, as Morrisville State took an early 3-0 lead after one.

Jenna D’Ercole (Highland, N.Y.) collected the win on the mound, striking out eight batters, while allowing five hits and three runs (one earned).

In the top of the sixth inning, Morrisville State added two additional runs to increase their lead to 6-2, capping off the win with an additional score in the top of the seventh.

In the second of the day’s action, Kendra Deno (Downsville, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 from the plate and Tiffany Burks (Macedon, N.Y.) 1-for-1 with a double to lead the Mustangs, but Wells rallied to top Morrisville State 12-4 in five innings for the win.

Morrisville State took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but couldn’t hold on as Wells got the bats rolling in back-to-back innings to claim the commanding 12-1 lead after three.

The Mustangs attempted to put together a rally in the top of the fourth with a two run response, but the Express defense held on for the conference win.

Burks registered the loss on the mound for Morrisville State, throwing the opening two innings, allowing five hits and eight runs (five earned), while striking out two, before D’Ercole returned to close out the game. D’Ercole allowed three hits and four runs (one earned) in 10 batters faced, adding two more strikeouts to her tallies on the day.
