(Chittenango, NY – April 2013) The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, CLCBM, is pleased to announce that it has received a Special Projects grant from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to fund an Erie Canal Historic Educational Internet Access Program. This grant was sponsored locally by the Fayetteville Owahgena Chapter of the DAR.
The museum will utilize the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution grant funds to create on-line internet access to our collection of historic artifacts and to develop and present virtual exhibits that will enhance and expand our successful educational programs to provide improved access to our collection by students, teachers, researchers and people interested in United States history worldwide.
The internet virtual education programs will show life along the Historic Erie Canal in the 1800’s. These virtual programs and the on-line access to collection artifacts will explain why the route for the canal was selected and how that route impacted the shape of states west of New York State. These educational programs will also explain how the route of the Erie Canal changed our new nation’s relations with Canada and England.
Christine O’Neill is the executive director of the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum.
