Defenseman Now Eligible for Academic All-America Honors

(Hamilton, NY – May 17, 2013)  Colgate senior James Queeney earned a place on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District I Men’s At-Large Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The lacrosse defenseman was named to the NCAA Division I squad for schools from the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, in addition to New York. The men’s at-large category comprises student-athletes from fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling, in addition to lacrosse.

This is Queeney’s second straight appearance on the Academic All-District Team. Last year, Queeney went on to be named Capital One Academic All-America Third Team. He now becomes eligible for inclusion on this year’s All-America At-Large squad, which is announced by CoSIDA on June 6.

Queeney, who hails from Reading, Mass., and carries a 4.17 grade-point average in mathematics and economics, played and started in all 15 games this season for the Raiders. He tallied 32 ground balls and caused seven turnovers for the Patriot League Tournament semifinalists. Queeney for his career played in 56 games with 49 starts, and finished with 88 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers.

The two-year team captain is a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree who earned the Mitchell Award presented to the Colgate student-athlete sporting the highest GPA. He has been a member of the Raider Academic Honor Roll and Colgate Dean’s List every semester, and turned in only one semester with less than a 4.0 GPA during his collegiate stay.
