Gary Svecz(Sylvan Beach, NY – May 30, 2013)  State Police in Sylvan Beach are investigating a fatal bicycle crash that occurred, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 8:39 p.m. on Vienna Road in the Village of Sylvan Beach, Oneida County.

The investigation revealed Neil J. Pedersen, age 13 from Sylvan Beach was visiting a friend’s house when he decided to drive his bicycle home. At approximately 8:39 p.m. he was operating the bike southbound on the shoulder of Vienna Road when he was struck by a southbound Chevy pick-up truck operated by Gary P. Svecz, age 53, from 351 Deleware St. Forest City, Pa.

Pedersen was ejected off the bike and ended up on a walking trail located on the west side of Vienna Road.

Svecz left the scene and was pulled over by a volunteer fireman a short distance from the accident.
Pederson was transported to Oneida City Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Svecz was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and second-degree Vehicular Manslaughter and was arraigned in the Town of Floyd Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash / $200,000 bond.

He is scheduled to return to the Town of Floyd Court on June 4 at 4 p.m. for a felony hearing.

  1. I’m sorry if the spelling of your son’s name was incorrect. This report came right from the police. Maybe that’s why EVERY reporter gets it wrong.
