(Wampsville, NY – July 2013Mad Co Sheriff's Dept) Lance Zaleski, a 13 year veteran of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was promoted July 12 to the rank of Sergeant. He started with the Office in 2000.

Since his arrival, Zaleski has been assigned to the Criminal Division Road Patrol, where he is also an instructor in several topics, as well as a narcotics K9 handler until earlier this year.

Zaleski is also the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit commander.

In a ceremony held at the Madison County Public Safety Building, Sheriff Allen Riley swore Zaleski in to his new position, where he will be responsible for all operations of the Sheriff’s Office road patrol during overnight hours, as well as his role with the Special Operations Unit.

The ceremony included Sheriff Riley and Sergeant Zaleski attended by family and friends of Zaleski, along with several members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Zaleski’s wife Karen, a Sergeant with the Village of Cazenovia Police Department, pinned his badge while his two sons assisted him with pinning on his collar rank insignia.

“We were fortunate to have highly qualified candidates for this position, and the decision process was a tough one,” said Riley. “I have full faith in Sergeant Zaleski, and his ability to successfully lead both his shift and special operations unit members as we continue enhancements to our daily operations, ensuring all facets of our commitment to public safety in our County are met.”

Zaleski and his family are residents of the Munnsville area.
