Author and Speaker Tim Skjellerup will be holding a book signing event at the Hamilton Public Library for his new book Maximize Your College Experience on Oct. 10 from 6 to 7 pm. Skjellerup is originally from Boonville but now resides in Sauquoit.

(JulyTim-pic-2 2013) It is a startling fact that student loan debt has grown to the largest source of debt in the United States. The average student leaves college burdened with $26,500 in student loan debt. An even more unsettling fact is that nearly half of these students are leaving college without a degree.  On average, just 58 percent of students who start at a 4-year college get a degree within six years, and only 30 percent graduate within three years at community colleges.

“College is far too expensive of an investment to have nothing to show for except student loan debt at the end.” says Tim Skjellerup author of the new book Maximize Your College Experience, how to get the most from your college experience for success now and in the future.

According to Skjellerupthere is no secret to college success, it is a simple formula of realizations, attitude and habits that, if followed, can help ensure success. In Maximize Your College Experience, Tim offers a step-by-step roadmap to help students develop the tools necessary to win at college and life.

“My mission with my speaking and writing is to help students at every level graduate with as many options open to them as possible, regardless of what their past academic performance looks like. I want to help students create their own competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

. Subjects covered range from taking responsibility for your education, organization and self-discipline to partying and relationships. He shows that contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to study around the clock—or sacrifice your social life—to nail a top-tier GPA. The book includes action steps at the end of each chapter to help engage students and allow them to put what they have learned into motion.

Through a brash and unapologetic account of his own experiences and mistakes, Skjellerup offers himself up as living proof that your past doesn’t have to define your future. A single father who once nearly flunked out of community college, Tim outlines strategies he used to overcome substance abuse and a learning disability to transform his collegiate career and graduate magna cum laude from Cornell University.

“Whether you’re a young undergrad, returning veteran or non-traditional student, life happens and things come up that can derail your focus in college,” Skjellerup explains. “Having a vision for the future and a goal with proven action steps to follow can help you stay focused through the most trying times.”
