(Oneida, NY – July 2013) The following events are scheduled at the Oneida Public Library for the month of August.

August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30

The Little Red Wagon

Fridays at 10 a.m.

Educator Elaine Clark presents a weekly program on Fridays at 10 a.m., through August 30, for preschoolers and their parents or guardians for stories, activities and educational games that will bolster the children’s pre-reading skills.

 

August 6 through 8

Perfect Storms

Tuesday through Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The OPL Summer Reading Program presents the Mad Professor, Jen Herzog from Herkimer County Community College, who will teach children in a hands-on workshop the mysteries of extreme weather conditions, including lightning, snow and tornadoes. Registration is required.

 

August 8

The Masque of Pyramus and Thisbe

Thursday at 4 p.m.

Oneida Public Library presents at the First Presbyterian Church, Broad and Stone streets, the OPL Children’s Theater production of “The Masque of Pyramus and Thisbe,” a one-act comedy combining mime, masks and over-the-top dialogue, as performed by children aged 7 to 13 years under the direction of Tom Lemery.

 

August 8

Book Talk with John Ready

Thursday at 7 p.m.

U.S. Army Major John Ready presents his recently published book, “Does My Suicide Vest Make Me Look Fat?”, a memoir of his year on duty in war-torn Iraq, 2003-04. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing by the author.

 

August 12 through 16

Lego Robotics

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

The OPL Summer Reading Program presents engineers Ralph Kohler and Tandy Paugh in a workshop in which children aged 9 to 14 years will build and program robots with Legos that can actually compete in robotics challenges. Registration is required.

 

August 13

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m.

The OPL’s Summer Reading Program hosts a madcap party for children in the SRP program, complete with costumes, games, contests and cupcake decoration.

 

August 14

Wednesday Art Club

Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Local amateur artists meet at Oneida Public Library the second Wednesdayof each month to share ideas and works in progress. New members are welcome.

 

August 19 and 20

AARP’s Drivers Safety Class

Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The AARP offers its Drivers Safety Class to licensed drivers 50 years and older for potential discounts in car insurance. To register, call Bob Fish at 363-0455.
