Snyder Family cropped(Herkimer, NY – Aug. 2013) Herkimer County Community College honored longtime chairman of the Board of Trustees Donald Snyder at the dedication of the Donald J. Snyder Corridor, also known as “Don’s Way,” on July 10, 2013 in the company of many college employees, board members, friends and family.

Snyder, of West Winfield, has served on the Board of Trustees since 1991 and as chairman since 2001, and has provided leadership during a time of significant growth and development. Under Snyder’s leadership, the campus completed construction of the Technology Building, Wehrum Stadium, Reservoir Run, and renovation of the Robert McLaughlin College Center, Ronald F. Williams Library and the Gaynor Science Center.

Snyder played an integral role in securing a $300,000 donation for the renovation of several science labs, now known as the Edward Manning and Shirley Augar Gaynor Science Center.

“When it came time to recognize the impact Don has made here at Herkimer, we knew that it had to be special. The connection to the heart of the College, its Library and the academic space in Johnson Hall, which was enhanced through Don’s efforts, was the perfect space to bear his name,” said HCCC President Ann Marie Murray.

Snyder’s son John spoke during the ceremony of his father’s connection and commitment to the College since the start when his father was involved in the selection of the campus location.

“Anyone who knows my father knows that his family is very important to him. After his family, HCCC is very close to his heart,” he said. “My father has continued his connection to the college from that initial start right through the present day. In fact, my father is a proud alum of this wonderful institution. The ‘kid with white hair’ will never be forgotten here.”

After the unveiling of a bronze plaque with his likeness, Donald Snyder thanked all who have been supportive of his work and the College. He accepted the honor by saying, “It is my sincere hope that future generations are able to use this corridor to connect not only buildings, but to connect with friends, to connect with their goals, and ultimately to connect with their dreams.”

Snyder is a semi-retired attorney providing counsel since 2002 to the firm of Cosentino, Snyder & Quinn, and was a partner with Cosentino, Snyder & Snyder from 1966 to 1998. He has held numerous offices and memberships in a variety of organizations including: Fleet Bank Regional Board, Rotary Club of West Winfield, American Legion, Yahnundasis Golf Club, Cedar lake Golf Club, West Winfield Library, Central New York Abstract Corp., and Mt. Markham Central School Board President. Snyder was honorably discharged as a Captain from the United States Army Infantry.
