(Oneida, NY) Listeners to local radio station WMCR 106.3 FM “Mix 106” have heard a new voice on the air for the last couple of weeks.

Tom Sawyer has joined the radio station as its afternoon and evening announcer, and is also taking over the position of Operations Manager on Mix 106.

Current Operations Manager Joel Meltzer is leaving the station after more than 25 years.  Meltzer, who joined the station when it was managed by Mike Healy and owned by Bill and Vivian Warren, has decided to move to Southern Florida where he will be doing free lance work.

Meltzer, who has hosted the popular Open Line call in program for many years, says he leaves the station with mixed feelings.  He says he is excited about future possibilities, but is sad to leave an area that he says he has grown to love.

Sawyer brings a long history of on-air broadcast, commercial production and live DJ performance experience to the station.  He has worked on-air for radio stations along the thruway corridor and was part of the first air staff of Big Frog 104 when it signed on as 96 Frog in the mid 80’s.

Settling back in Syracuse in 1987 Sawyer was Production Director and Afternoon Air Talent at 620 WHEN and Morning Host for Hit Country 108 WRHP in the early 90’s.

He also spent a couple of years at Y94 FM and B104.7.

Sawyer is a native of Central New York and lives in Cicero with his wife and three children.  He is a boating, muscle car and fitness enthusiast when he is not performing behind the microphone.
