PenaC13(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 8, 2013) Morrisville State College running back, Cristian Peña (Ridgewood, N.Y.) has been named to theD3football.com National “Team of the Week” presented by Scoutware, as announced Tuesday morning, for his performance in the Mustangs 51-48 win over William Paterson on Oct. 5.

The “Team of the Week” consists of the best performers by position among all Division III institutions throughout the weeks competition.

Peña compiled 216 yards on 27 carries on Saturday, an average of 8.0 yards per carry, and scored twice, adding four catches for 62 yards and another score in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over the Pioneers.

The sophomore leads Morrisville State in the running game, with 585 yards and five touchdowns in just four games to date on the season. In the last three games, Peña has carried the ball 150+ yards per game (6.6 yards per carry) and has racked up another 131 in receiving (12.1 per catch), contributing more than 188 yards on average per game to the Mustangs dynamic and explosive offensive scheme.

brandy1Acknowledged for his performance on the field already this season by the conference, his 216 yards rushing set a new collegiate high for Peña, who was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week and ECAC Division III Southeast Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

The sophomore is a graduate of Enterprise High and is majoring in automotive technology at Morrisville State. He is the son of Ana Gonzalez of Ridgewood.
