To the Editor:
(Oct. 2013) As one of two candidates for Madison County Clerk in this November’s General Election, I am pleased to submit this letter of introduction to our community and to explain my goals and initiatives for this position, should the residents of Madison County elect me.
The position of County Clerk is prescribed for in the New York State Constitution. The role of County Clerk can be traced back to 13th century England. Today, the County Clerk is one of only a handful of county-wide elected officials in our County. The duties and responsibilities are many, and causes interaction with the community daily, for reasons such as obtaining a copy of the deed to your home, notarization of a legal document, drivers license issuance and renewals, passport preparations, researching family history or other historical documents, and acting as the keeper of official records for the County.
I am ready to assume this responsibility, and oversee the annual operating budget and fine staff of the Clerk’s Office, and understand the critical importance of safeguarding your records and sensitive information with my current position in the County’s Board of Elections.
I understand the need for modern, yet money-saving methods, embracing technology to enhance and streamline the day to day operations of the Clerk’s Office and its deliverables to you. This includes my plan to expand online services that would be available to County residents around-the-clock, available when it’s convenient for you. I understand that it’s hard on some citizens to travel to the Clerk’s Office to do routine business, so one of my goals is to implement mobile County Clerk services in various areas of the County on a routine schedule, bringing us to you! It is my absolute passion to conduct business in the best prescribed manner while understanding the necessity to save taxpayer dollars.
I understand the critical importance of having an already top notch staff, and will lead them by example, providing the tools and training needed to serve our residents as they expect and deserve, kindly, capably and professionally.
I understand the need to be our citizen’s go-to person, being there for those in distress. This will always be my main calling.
Having the privilege of working for Madison County for the past 9 years, I am very much aware of day to day business in our County, and have developed a substantial resource list that can only help me serve you better.
