(Wampsville, NY – Nov. 22, 2013) Madison County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested two females this week for welfare fraud. They are:
Hope Layo, 38 of East Syracuse was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud (class E Felony) and second-degree offering a false instrument for filing (A Misdemeanor).
It is alleged that Layo falsified her public assistance application claiming she lived in Madison County when she in fact resided in Onondaga County. As a result of Layo’s fraudulent act, she was overpaid $2,255 in public assistance benefits.
Layo is to appear in the Town of Lenox Court on Dec. 10 to answer the charges.
Adrianne L Wagoner, 30 of Canastota was charged with third-degree welfare fraud (D Felony) and second-degree offering a false instrument for filing (A Misdemeanor).
It is alleged that Wagoner falsified her public assistance application claiming her three children lived with her when in fact the children had not resided with her for over one year.
As a result of Wagoner’s fraudulent act, she was overpaid $7,020 in public assistance benefits.
Wagoner was arraigned in the Town of Lenox Court and she was released on her own recognizance. She is to re-appear at the Town Lenox Court on Nov. 26 to answer the charges.
If convicted, both could face up to four years in state prison for the welfare fraud charge and one year in jail for the offering a false instrument for filing charge.
