(Morrisville, NY – Dec. 2013) Local history writer Bob Betz will be signing his newest book at the Farmers’ Market at Madison Hall Saturday Dec. 7. The Market that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month in the winter features everything from baked goods and produce to handmade gifts and special treats.
Madison Hall is the former Madison County Courthouse where the Loomis Gang was tried a number of times for their many crimes and is a representation of the community and court facilities of its era.
Madison Hall is located on Route 20 once known as the Cherry Valley Turnpike, is today designated as one of New York State’s Scenic Bi-ways. There is ample parking across the street from the building, which is handicapped-accessible.
The Old Town of Eaton Museum will be present with a special book signing by Bob Betz. Betz’s latest book explaining how the Chenango Canal Summit Level worked has been something asked for by visitors and locals alike who today enjoy its many reservoirs and ponds.
The book features 120 pictures and diagrams and shows its workings while explaining how the engineers of the day created this wonder that fed the canal. (The Chenango Canal connected the Erie in Utica to the Binghamton area and contained over 100 locks.)
More than 12 other titles will be available to help support the museum.
