(Cazenovia, NY – Jan. 2014) The “Open Afternoon Book Club” for adults at the Cazenovia Public Library meets in the Story Garden every third Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The Feb. 19 selection, The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman, is a months-long New York Times bestseller that tells the irresistible and seductive story of Tom Sherbourne and his wife Isabel. (Oprah Magazine)

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast.  To this isolated island, he brings his young wife, Isabel, who years later is grieving the loss of three babies.

One day, Isabel finds a boat washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Insisting that the baby is a “gift from God,” she convinces Tom to claim the baby as their own.  Months later, they return to the mainland where their choice eventually devastates one of them. (Amazon.com)

Future selections for the “Open Afternoon Book Club” are Defending Jacobby William Landry, Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan, The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro, and The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert.

The “Open Afternoon Book Club” is free and open to the public.  Books are available at the circulation desk and all are welcome.
