Friends of the Oneida Public Library Meeting

Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Friends of the Oneida Public Library will hold a general meeting in the library’s Meeting Room. New members are welcome.

Seniors can get free tax-filing help and direct electronic filing of their tax forms from IRS-certified volunteers. Senior Tax Help is available Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Oneida Library until April 15.

Tuesday at 10 a.m.

This is an early-literacy program of songs, play, crafts and stories that will help children from birth through two years old to develop pre-reading skills.

Tech Help

Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m.

Volunteer tech advisors will be on hand to help users set up and adapt their devices, from iPads to tablets to smart phones. No appointment is needed.

Tech Specialist Katie McCauley from Mid-York Library System introduces Skype—the sound, video and texting communication program. She will also download the program into laptops brought in by participants.

Youth Librarian Michele Ryan guides children in creating their own valentines in the old-fashioned way.

The Oneida Public Library Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting in the library’s History Room. The public is invited to attend.

Ria Curley, Chuck Lamb and Friends

Thursday at 7 p.m.

Singer and songwriter Ria Curley joins up with pianist Chuck Lamb from the Brubeck Brothers Quartet to jazz up St. Valentine’s Day with original tunes and R&B standards in a free concert. Refreshments will be served.

For winter break, the OPL serves up for young students on break a free matinee showing of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” a new animated film about foods gone amok.

Oneida Community’s Curious Science of Eugenics

Saturday at 2 p.m.

Prof. Giles Wayland-Smith lectures on the Oneida Community’s transformation from a childfree commune to a selective breeding ground to populate a spiritual kingdom on earth—a change that led to the utopian community’s undoing.

Library Vote Open Hearing

Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Members of the OPL Board of Trustees will be available to discuss with members of the public the proposed library district tax levy up for a vote March 4. Candidates running for the two open seats on the board will also be on hand to meet the public.
