Trout Unlimited 680 News

(Madison County, NY – Jan. 2014) Outreach and education is one of the cornerstones of Trout Unlimited. The Madison County Trout Unlimited Chapter 680 is offering fly tying classes as part of an apprenticeship program.

Classes began Jan. 11 and will be held approximately every other Saturday from noon until about 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 204 W. Genesee St., Chittenango.

A total of about 13 classes will be held through the beginning of April. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 110 are welcome to attend. All materials and tools will be supplied with a suggested donation of $15 for minors and $20 for adults to cover the cost of supplies; guests can pay $2 for an individual session. Each class is a new lesson, so feel free to join at any time.

Experienced fly-tiers will assist the students as they learn basic and practical patterns that can be used on local streams and lakes. In addition, students will learn the entomology of the fly pattern being imitated. For more information, to register or to sponsor someone to attend, call Dr. Richard Carroll at 315.430.8335 or visit tu680.org.

The mission of Trout Unlimited is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s Coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. Generally speaking, a coldwater fishery is a place where trout tend to inhabit. In addition, the water must be clean and, therefore, provides an indicator of a healthy body of water.
