(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 2014) The American Library Association has recently announced their 2014 top book awards. The Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children was given to Locomotive, illustrated by Brian Floca.

The Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature was awarded to Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, written by Kate DiCamillo.

Midwinterblood, written by Marcus Sedgwick, was given the Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults.

We are pleased that Flora & Ulysses is already part of our collection, thanks to our book partnership with the Rotary Club of Hamilton.  Both Locomotive and Midwinterblood are available to borrow through the Mid York Library System.  We can’t wait for our own copies to arrive in Hamilton soon.

We hope you’ll join us Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. for a special reception honoring our exceptional artists.  The Exceptional Art exhibit will be on display at the library throughout February and the beginning of March.  Many thanks to our friends from the following organizations for arranging this wonderful opportunity: Heritage Farm, The ARC, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, Madison-Cortland ARC, Central New York DSO, ARISE, Herkimer Area Resource Center, and Resource Center for Independent Living.  Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
