The Frances Fuggle Program Room will receive new flooring and paint during renovations at the New Woodstock Free Library Feb. 9 through 17. The library will be closed during the work and will reopen Feb. 18.
(New Woodstock, NY – Feb. 2014) The New Woodstock Free Library will be closed from Sunday, Feb. 9 through Monday, Feb. 17 for renovations. The library will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The renovations coincide with the start of the library’s 75th year.
“This is our diamond anniversary” observed Library Director Norm Parry. “The library was founded by New York State Education Department charter in 1939 and has served generations of readers and information seekers over the years.”
“Children have grown up using the library, married and brought their children to enjoy the programs, materials and information. In some cases children are reading the same titles their parents loved. Sometimes it is actually the same book itself,” Parry said.
The current renovations emphasize the fact that the library has changed over the years, but remains essentially the same in service to the community. “The New Woodstock Free Library moved several times. The buildings have been renovated, repaired and restored, but the library itself has a soul that survives location and personnel. The library is the work of the hearts and hands of the community,” Parry said. “We’ve added computers, movies, e-books and audio books, but the library is, and always has been, the work of volunteers and librarians serving their neighbors.”
“When the library reopens Feb. 18, new flooring and paint will add to the recently completed lighting and energy conservation measures to make the place shine,” Parry concluded.
The New Woodstock Free Library is located at 2106 Main Street (Route 13) in the hamlet of New Woodstock.

The New Woodstock Free Library is open Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 until 1. The library is also open whenever the blue library symbol flag is flying out front. Children’s hour is every Tuesday at 11 a.m.
