(Chittenango, NY – Feb. 2014) Janet (Spawn) Westerberg, 86, lost her battle with a long illness Feb. 5, 2014, while at Blossom View Nursing Home. She is the beloved wife of and survived by husband John C. She leaves her son, Douglas; daughter-in-law, Marty; two grandchildren, Kim (Dan) Verdine and James; two great grandchildren, Avery and Cooper; brother, Donald Spawn; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Janet was a native of Chittenango, where her father was high school principal. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1949 and began work at Kodak. She met her husband of 62 years shortly thereafter. During their marriage, they organized direct-selling businesses and later established the Yankee Peddler Bookshop, which they operated for more than 40 years.
Their life was a total partnership as they both enjoyed music, theater, travel, art, antiques, books, sports, cats and seven foreign exchange students.
Janet played piano, drums, cello and sang. She especially loved watching SU basketball and ice skating shows. She was very much loved and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Young Funeral Home, 4025 Ridge Road, Williamson. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m., at the Pultneyville Reformed Church, 7784 Hamilton St, Williamson.
A reception will be held at the church following service.
