(Morrisville, NY – March 19, 2014) The Morrisville State College men’s lacrosse team posted a fourth quarter comeback attempt Wednesday night, but fell short on time as visiting SUNY Potsdam posted a 5-3 non-conference decision over the hosts in Morrisville.
The loss drops Morrisville State to 4-2 overall, and improves Potsdam to 3-1.
Three separate Mustangs posted scores on the day, including Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.), John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) and Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.).
Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded the loss, turning away nine Potsdam attempts.
Five different Bears posted scores for Potsdam. Derek Frost, Matt Kennedy, Rob Kunz, Matt Moran and Ryan McConnell all tallied goals.
Keeper Ryan Duffy recorded his third win of the season, registering 16 stops on the day.
Potsdam registered the first strike of the afternoon, tallying an unassisted goal at the 12:37 mark in the opening quarter, before Beresovoy netted the equalizer off a feed from Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.) with 6:38 to go.
In the second, the Bears posted two unanswered tallies, and added two more in the third to boast a 5-1 lead after three quarters.
In the fourth, Sherlock posted a put back tally with 12:04 to go, collecting the ball off an initial save by Duffy. Evans made it a two goal game with 5:57 to go burying the shot off a feed from Jeffrey Andresen (Ocean City, Md.) who caused a turnover in the midfield during a Bear clear attempt.
Morrisville State had a few opportunities down the stretch, but Potsdam’s defensive unit kept the Mustangs at length as they posted the win.
The Mustangs return to the field Monday, traveling to SUNY Canton.
