(Morrisville, NY – March 28, 2014) The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Liz Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 23.

MILLER-MOR-WSB-2014 Miller, freshman outfielder, posted a .480 batting average across eight games for the Mustangs softball team in her collegiate debut last week. In 25 at bats, she tallied 12 hits, four of which were doubles, registered five RBI’s and added four runs in the Morrisville State efforts.

In the field, Miller held the centerfield position and collected 16 put outs assisting four more.

The graduate of Columbia High is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Julie and Tom Miller of East Greenbush.

WOOD-MOR-WLX-2014Wood had a record breaking performance across two games last week for the women’s lacrosse team. The midfielder posted three goals in the contest against Colorado College, becoming the all-time points record leader at Morrisville State with 225. She added two ground balls and three draw controls to her tallies in the contest before posting a monster eight goal, five ground ball and three draw control performance against Puget Sound.

Her eight goals led the Mustangs to a 14-11 win, and pushed her to the top spot on the all-time leaderboard in goals for the Mustangs, finishing the week with 188 to her credit in two and a half years of competition.

The graduate of Holy Names Academy is majoring in journalism and communication for online media at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
