(Oneida, NY – June 2014) Troop D Commander Major Rodney W. Campbell recently announced the newest additions to the New York State Police K9 Unit: bloodhound Lynde and Trooper Kevin P. Conners.
Conners is a 12-year veteran of the State Police. He and Lynde are newly certified through the NYSP Division Bloodhound Training. Lynde is an energetic and friendly 2-and-one-half-year-old bloodhound who enjoys being out in the field and is ready to start her career. Lynde came from the Ontario County Humane Society Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
In addition, Conners has a 16-week-old Bloodhound puppy donated to the State Police from breeder Robin Severance of Westport. This puppy was hand-picked and Conners has high hopes for her becoming an excellent tracker herself when her training is complete.
Lynde is named in honor of Trooper Thomas C. Lynes who lost his life in the line of duty June 3, 1935. Lynde will be used to track suspects, lost/missing persons and evidence. She and Conners are assigned out of Troop D Headquarters in Oneida, which covers Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego counties.
