Tussie-Mussie Workshop, Free Guided Tours offered at MCHS
(Oneida, NY – June 2014) Madison County Historical Society will offer house tours and Heritage Handicraft Workshop during the Past Through History Weekend on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The historical society will host a Heritage Handicraft Workshop, Tussie-Mussie. Popularized in Victorian times, the term Tussie-Mussie comes from the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 – 1901), when the small bouquets became a popular fashion accessory. All materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring copies of favorite family photos, meaningful quotes, and any miscellaneous embellishments, such as buttons, fabric scraps, charms, or costume jewelry they may wish to incorporate in the design for a more personal creation. Pamela Vogan Lynch, a professional artist and retired Director of Art for the Oneida City School District will be the instructor.
The workshop is open to adults and children 10 years of age and up. The cost of the workshop is $10 for adults and $5 for children. We encourage you to call ahead to reserve your space. We will also be offering free guided tours of the historical society and viewing of the latest temporary exhibit “Medicine over the years, 1800s- 1950s.”
