(Oneida, NY – June 2014) A former resident of Oneida Castle and a retired Oneida High School teacher, Richard MacAlpine will visit Oneida Public Library on Saturday, June 21, to present his recently published book, “Yates County Chronicles: Stories from Penn Yann, Keuka Lake and the Heart of the Finger Lakes.”

The result of his ongoing historical research into Yates County history and lore. MacAlpine originally published sections of the book as newspaper articles published in the Yates Post. Richly illustrated with contemporary photographs, the book is a series of unusual historical tales of the Keuka Lake region that occurred between 1850 and 1960. MacAlpine covers suffragettes, the Ku Klux Klan, the local impact of the Titanic’s sinking, whales, bizarre crimes and unsolved mysteries, among other topics.

MacAlpine retired from teaching history at Oneida High School in 2001.

Copies of “Yates County Chronicles” will be available for sale and the author’s signing.
