(Canastota, NY – July 2014) More than 200 alumni and guests attended the 133rd Canastota High School Alumni Association’s Banquet held at the Rusty Rail June 28. Following a welcome by president Mary Ann Mengucci, Nancy Fradenburg presented the slate of Officers and Directors for the coming year, and it was unanimously approved by the members. Preceding dinner, the Invocation was given by Father Stephen Wirkes.
Approximately 17 members from the classes of 1937 through 1943 were recognized as the oldest alumni in attendance. Also receiving special recognition were the 70-year class of 1944, the 1954 class of 60 years and the 50-year class of 1964.
The winner of the CCS Alumni Association’s 8th Scholarship Award was announced as Hafeezah Lewis. Acting Master of Ceremonies Douglas Gustin then presented the Vincent V. Albanese Achievement Award to James E. Caldwell with Gregory Keefe receiving the Educator’s Award and Linda Baldwin, the Secretary Award.
Stephen Tornatore presented the names of the 2014 CCS Wall of Distinction Recipients to be honored at a later date. They are alumni Joseph Fisher, Wheeler Milmoe, posthumously, Gary Tornatore, Dr. Louis Buttino and Dr. Mary Crawford.
The evening ended with Jane Hicks completing the traditional Roll Call of the Classes, Father Stephen Wirkes giving the Benediction and Lynne Ahnert leading the singing of the Alma Mater with Sue Rinaldo on the keyboard.
