(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 2014)  Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association and Colgate Bookstore will host the 1st Annual Pet Paw-ty on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at 3 Utica St.

This event – a combination pet adoption, story-time, and book-signing – is free and open to all humans. Animal guests will be limited to those brought by the staff of Wanderers’ Rest.

The afternoon will consist of:

Adoption Event – Foster and shelter cats, kittens, and dogs that are ready for adoption will arrive at the Bookstore in the hopes of finding permanent families and forever homes. All dogs are temperament tested and only those dogs that are friendly and safe around other dogs, cats, and children will be present.

Reading to Rover (1-1:30 p.m.) – a Wanderers’ Rest staff member will bring two small therapy dogs and hold a unique story time:  in addition to an adult reading to the children, kids will have the chance to read to the dogs! There will be a short lesson on the importance of acting in a humane way, as well as a craft, and a snack.

Book-signing – Local author Hank Leo, Jr. will be present throughout the afternoon to sign copies of his book In Your Hands. This endearing story of life lessons, told by a Siberian Husky named Louie, is a wonderful depiction of love, laughter, and learning.

Sales – To mark this special event, the Colgate Bookstore will offer, for one day only, 20 percent off pet-themed items. These include all Harry Barker distinctive dog accessories, all Colgate pet gear, and all books in the Pet section.

Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association, based in Canastota, is the sole open admissions dog and cat shelter in Madison County. This non-profit organization is dedicated to providing the highest quality care and compassion for the animals entrusted to them, striving to enhance adoptability, and re-homing adoptable animals at the highest rate possible, while educating and leading the community in creating a more humane society.
