Sheehan, Larkin selected NEAC Players of the Week
(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 28, 2014) The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections, naming two from Morrisville State College as its players of the week for men’s soccer.
Sophomore forward Joe Sheehan (Liverpool, N.Y.) has been selected as the NEAC Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this season following his nine point performance across two games last week. Sheehan posted a late goal on a penalty kick to put the game away in a 2-0 win over SUNYIT on Wednesday, before tallying a hat trick with three goals and an assist in a win over Cobleskill on Saturday.
His efforts helped the Mustangs secure their first ever regular season title with a 9-1 conference record. Sheehan closed out the regular season ranked second in the conference in both goals scored (15) and points (35).
The 2013 graduate of Liverpool High is majoring in sports, nutrition and fitness management at Morrisville State. He is the son of Ellen and Matt Sheehan of Liverpool.
Junior goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) has been named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Week following his clutch performance in net for the Mustangs in Wednesday’s win over SUNYIT.
He posted his fourth shutout of the season to help Morrisville State secure the NEAC regular season championship, as he made two saves to help blank the Wildcats in the 2-0 victory. Both saves came within split seconds of one another, as he made a diving stop and then came back the other way to get a hand on the ball on the rebound to prevent SUNYIT from tying the game late in the second half.
Larkin currently leads the NEAC in wins (12), goals against (7) and goals against average (0.64). His efforts assisted the Mustangs in earning the top overall seed in the upcoming conference championship tournament, and the right to host the event.

Armiento Patriot Defensive Player of Week
(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 27, 2014) For the third time in his career, Colgate’s Mike Armiento is the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
Armiento turned in a career-high 15 tackles Saturday at Albany, as the Raiders took the 25th-ranked Great Danes to the wire before losing in the closing seconds. Armiento’s previous personal best was 12 tackles last year against Bucknell, and his season high before Saturday was 11 in the opener at Ball State.
The senior captain now has 250 tackles for his career, second among active Raiders behind Kris Kent’s 259.
In addition, Armiento has two interceptions this season to move alone into third on both the Colgate and Patriot League career charts with 14. That number among active NCAA FCS players is second only to Sacred Heart’s J.D. Roussel, who has 16.
Armiento twice was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week last year after performances at Cornell and Holy Cross. He was a two-time winner of the weekly rookie award during his freshman campaign of 2011.
Previous Patriot League weekly media and SID award winners for Colgate this season are Jonah Bowman for special teams (Sept. 13 and 20), Alex Greenawalt for rookie (Oct. 11), Chris Morgan for special teams (Oct. 18) and Victor Steffen for special teams (Sept. 27). Other Raiders recognized have been John Quazza for national tight end (Aug. 30) by the College Football Performance Awards and Vinny Russo for defense (Oct. 4) by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
The Raiders return to Patriot League action Saturday at Fordham in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
