From the Sources
- Colgate head coach Dan Hunt: (On the game) “The first half was played in our own end of the field for the most part. We had a long field to go for most of the first half, and we weren’t consistent enough to be able to flip that.
“The blocked punt really hurt us, but our goal all week was to get it to halftime within striking distance and we were there. We turned it over on three straight drives and you can’t do that against a team as good as Fordham. They’re going to put you away every time. That’s where it got away from us.
“But the kids kept playing hard. The identity of this team is they are going to play hard regardless of the score, and they did. Out execution has to get better, particularly on offense. It will come. We’re a young team.”
(On scoring late) “We had a couple of drives where we were stopped in their territory, so to end with points is always a nice thing. We have to find a way to produce more meaningful points earlier in the games. When our defense is playing that well, we have to be able to reward that with points. That’s the next step for us.”
(On returning home) “The only thing that happened today is we lost control of our own destiny. We’re going to need help if we’re going to win the Patriot League championship. We have to look at it one game at a time.
“The chance to finish an undefeated home season, last home game for the seniors – there’s a lot to play for. This team will keep fighting.”
- Colgate safety Mike Armiento: (On his interception) “We knew they liked to drive on third-and-long, and I was the short-dropper. I got right under the dig and I saw it coming. I just did my job and tried to do my 1/11th like on every play. I was in the right position to make the play.
(On the defense) “We were focusing on swarming to the ball and we did a good job of that. We wanted to keep them from making the big play.
(On next week against Lafayette) “We’re undefeated at home, so that’s a positive. We just have to take them one game at a time. We don’t control our own destiny, but we can still win-out and have a chance to win this league. That’s how we’re going to attack it.”
- Colgate offensive lineman Jordi Dalmau: (On Saturday’s position adjustments) “They moved me to right (tackle) and put Jeff (Koch) at left; he’s more comfortable there. We were just as comfortable with Jeff in there.”
- Colgate linebacker Charles Cairnie: (On his 10 tackles) “Coach had good play-calls. They tended to pull the tackle and I would just get inside. It wasn’t really anything new; the plays were there for me to make.”
(On looking ahead) “There’s nothing we can do about this loss. We just have to win out and hopefullysomething happens with Fordham. We just have to keep pushing forward.”
Gate Grab Bag
- Saturday’s crowd at Jack Coffey Field was 6,622.
- Dan Hunt was the featured guest Friday night at a “Colgate Football Conversation,” held in Manhattan at the New York Yacht Club. Hunt talked football for two hours with more than 60 alumni and parents.

Senior Joe Wilson and freshman Mike Panowyk scored in the opening 10 minutes of the contest to stake the Raiders to an early 2-0 lead. Junior Mike Borkowski wrapped up the first-period scoring with a goal in the final 80 seconds of the frame and added an insurance marker late in the third period to determine the final margin.
Colgate sophomore Charlie Finn made 23 saves as he recorded his NCAA-leading third shutout of the season.
How It Happened

Panowyk quickly shoveled it home from the doorstep for his second goal of the campaign.
– Borkowski tallied the first of his two goals with just 79 seconds remaining in the first period, putting home a rebound on a shot from junior Kyle Baun to make it 3-0 Colgate. Junior Darcy Murphy earned a secondary assist on the goal.
– After a scoreless second period, Borkowski put the game out of reach with his second goal of the night as he deflected a shot from junior Ryan Johnston into the cage with under four minutes remaining in the contest. Murphy picked up his second helper of the evening on the insurance tally.
Key Raider Information
– Baun saw his goal-scoring streak come to a close at four, but his assist extended his point-scoring streak to five games. He continues to lead the team in scoring with eight points (5 G, 3 A).

– Colgate moved to 6-2 overall as it saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.

– Following a scoreless second period, the Lakers doubled their advantage to 2-0 with 16:50 elapsed in the third period. During a two-on-one break, redshirt senior Kyle Just took a shot on goal that Colgate keeper Charlie Finn stopped, but the rebound deflected off of a charging Daniel Bahntge and into the net for his first goal of the season.
– Colgate would trim its deficit in half less than a minute after the Bahntge goal. The Raiders pulled Finn for an extra attacker and were awarded when Spink put home a one-timer from senior Spiro Goulakos to make it a 2-1 contest. Senior John Lidgett was credited with a secondary assist on the goal that came at the 17:49 mark of the third period.

Colgate Drops 3-1 Decision on Senior Day; Rizzo Nets Raiders’ Lone Goal
By Kat Castner
(Hamilton, NY – Nov. 1, 2014) Two Colgate men’s soccer players said farewell to Beyer-Small ’76 Field Saturday afternoon on senior day.
Seniors Tanner Schilling and Chris Campbell have posted an overall record of 26-35-16 and a Patriot League mark of 12-11-7 thus far in their four years. The Raiders, unfortunately, fell in Saturday’s game 3-1 to Lehigh but did see junior Nick Rizzo net his first goal of the season.
Rizzo’s marker in the 75th minute came after Ethan Kutler chipped him the ball over the Mountain Hawks defensive line. He collected the pass on his chest and volleyed it into the left corner of the net.

That’s something that at the end of the game we can walk off the field, despite the score and be proud of. I’m extremely proud at the fact that no one ever gave in and they all still believed by pushing for goals.”
“Tonight wasn’t a soccer thing or a tactical thing. We have to bring that sort of urgency every game. Championship teams bring that urgency the full 90 minutes. It’s something we have to learn to do. We have a lot of really talented players and sometimes when you have that youth it’s hard to maintain a certain level throughout the course of a game and season.”

The Raiders fell 4-1 to their nationally ranked and ECAC Hockey foe here Friday afternoon in Starr Rink.
Colgate did, however, see Sullivan net her fourth career marker. Her goal 11:37 into the third period ended the Bobcat’s streak of holding their opponents scoreless on the power play. Prior to today’s game Quinnipiac was 19-for-19 on the penalty kill.
The Raiders were awarded a man-up opportunity after the Bobcats were called for hooking 11:01 into the frame. 36 seconds later fellow classmates Annika Zalewski and Shelby Perry found Sullivan in front of the net to cut into Quinnipiac’s lead.

Raiders Fall to Terriers 2-0; Schilling Led all Players with Three Shots

(Boston, Mass. – Oct. 29, 2014) BOSTON – Colgate men’s soccer held No. 25 Boston University without a shot on goal for more than 54 minutes but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders fell 2-0 on Wednesday night.

The Terriers then tallied two goals in a little more than a five-minute span to take the advantage with 30 minutes remaining in the game.
Despite four more opportunities on net from Colgate, including a rip from Tanner Schilling outside the 18-yard box that sailed just wide of the right post, the Raiders were unable to find the equalizing markers.

A native of Cornwall, N.Y., Ewanich joins the Raider program from Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey, Fla., where she served as the head swimming and diving coach and instructional assistant.
Ewanich was also active in the youth swimming community while in Florida as she held the title of head swim coach with Tampa Bay Aquatics, an age group swimming organization that focused on helping each swimmer achieve efficiency through practicing drills and developing stroke technique.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Colgate community and to work with the Swimming and Diving program,” said Ewanich. “I appreciate Coach Waeger and the Athletic Administration for giving me the opportunity to coach at Colgate. From the moment I stepped foot on campus I knew this was where I wanted to be. I am looking forward to getting to know the team; they’re a exceptional group of athletes.”
Ewanich swam four seasons at Alabama, earning her way to the SEC Championship and scoring points in the event for the Crimson Tide in each of her four campaigns. She served as team captain during her senior season. She graduated from Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies in 2011.
Prior to her college career, Ewanich was a three-time U.S. Open competitor. A two-time New York State champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Ewanich was an eight-time High School All-American swimmer at Cornwall. She set 10 school and two sectional records during her prep career.
