(Oneida, NY – Dec. 2014) The McCarthy Family, a beguiling trio of instrumentalists and vocalists, will perform at Oneida Public Library on Thursday evening Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., a special free Holiday Concert with old and new favorite songs sung in three-part harmonies with an Irish lilt.

The family trio features Jim McCarthy on guitar, his wife Deirdre on harp and concertina and their teenage son Shane on guitar and mandolin. Together they perform folk, popular tunes and Irish airs, while for the Holiday Concert they will also play seasonal favorites and carols.

The McCarthy Family regularly performs in Central New York, most recently at the New York State Fair, the Syracuse Irish Festival, the Golden Harvest Festival at Beaver Lake and several venues in their hometown of Central Square.

Jim McCarthy, a former teacher, also performs thematic presentations in words and original songs for school assemblies. His latest subjects concern combating bullying and celebrating reading. Deirdre McCarthy, who hails from Limerick, Ireland, also performs solo, specializing in singing traditional Irish music to the accompaniment of harp, concertina, tin whistle and spoons.

The concert is free and open to the public.
