(Cazenovia, NY – Dec. 2014) Pat Hill and Jenna Wright are once again calling children ages 8-14 to the Cazenovia Public Library on Friday, Dec. 12 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for the third installment of the popular series “Art for Kids.”

The program will focus on the works of artist and illustrator Norman Rockwell, who was born Feb. 3, 1894 in New York City and lived to become one of America’s most beloved artists and illustrators.

In his youth, Rockwell was drawn to the arts, attending the National Academy of Design at age 16. By the time he was 18, he had become the Art Director of Boy’s Life, the Boy Scouts of America publication. At age 22, he created his first cover for the magazine Saturday Evening Post.  In all, he created more than 320 magazine covers during his 47-year career.

Although never recognized by his contemporaries in the art world, Rockwell’s heartwarming and often lighthearted illustrations captured the American ideal and endeared him to the American public.

After studying several examples of Rockwell’s work, everyone will have the opportunity to create a Saturday Evening Post cover. The beautiful Cazenovia village would most assuredly have appealed to Rockwell’s sensibilities!

The second half of the program will be an ornament workshop.  Using a variety of paper materials, including recycled books and magazines, participants will be able to make unique 3D ornaments.  All materials will be provided.

As in the past, “Art for Kids” will be offered during Cazenovia Central School half-days, and children who attend any of these programs will be entered to win an art kit that was generously donated by a dear friend of the Cazenovia Public Library.

To ensure program quality, class size is limited.  Stop by or call the Library at 655-9322 to reserve a spot.
