(New Woodstock, NY – Dec. 2014) The New Woodstock Free Library annual volunteer recognition celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday Dec. 6 at the library, 2106 Main Street (Route 13).  The opening of the annual Cazenovia Schools student art exhibit will coincide with the volunteer recognition event.

The event will include refreshments, children’s crafts, a brief ceremony to recount the year’s achievements, and a first look at the children’s art exhibit which will run through Jan. 30 of next year.  The public is invited to attend, meet the student artists and thank the volunteers for their efforts.

Librarian Norm Parry said volunteers have sustained and supported the library for 75 years.  The library celebrated its “diamond” anniversary during 2014.

“We have always had, an extraordinary group of people who give their time and skills to make the library what it is,” Parry said.  “We could never thank them enough, but we designate one day a year to recognize the essential role they play in the library’s success and longevity.  We invite everyone who uses the library to stop by Dec. 6 and express their thanks.”

The student art show has been an annual attraction at the library for more than 15 years.  Cazenovia art teacher Mary Damon arranges the show.   For many of the students this exhibit is the first opportunity they’ve had to show their works in a venue outside the school.

A family gingerbread house making party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 662-3134 to make a reservation.  All materials will be provided.

Also in December will be the annual showing of the perennially popular movie “The Polar Express,” on Friday, Dec. 19 starting at 6:30 p.m.

The New Woodstock Free Library is open Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 until 1.  The library is also open whenever the blue library symbol flag is flying out front.  Children’s hour is every Tuesday at 11 a.m.  The library phone number is 662-3134.  For more information, visit the library webpage www.midyork.org/newwoodstock.
