Major Coots(Oneida, NY- Dec. 2014) New York State Police Troop D has a new commanding officer, Major Francis S. Coots, 53, of Syracuse, NY has been promoted to that post.

Major Coots began his career serving New York State in 1983 as a Trooper in Troop E. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1991, to Lieutenant in 1998 and was most recently assigned as Captain in Marcy where he served since 2005 as Zone 1 Commander.

Coots grew up in Framingham, Mass. He is married with three children, four step-children and six grandchildren.  His command covers seven counties in Central NY, which include Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego.  Operating from 27 facilities, the men and women of Troop D provide service to 167 towns, 89 villages and 5 cities.
