Caz library(Cazenovia, NY – Feb. 2015) The Cazenovia Public Library Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome four new members—Kate Franz, Carolyn Holmes, Debbie McCullough, and Kurt Schnitzler.  Well-known in the Cazenovia area, each will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Board of Trustees during their upcoming four-year term.

Kate Franz and her family moved from Washington D.C. to Cazenovia in 2011.  She is a   former elementary teacher and literacy advocate, as well as a Director of Literacy for a nationally-recognized charter school. Dedicated to educational equity, she is currently working for TNTP, a national non-profit that advocates for excellence in all schools, and for the Syracuse City School District as an independent literacy consultant.

Carolyn Holmes, a Cazenovia resident since 1977, is a retired English teacher and devoted volunteer.  She served on the Board of Trustees in the late 1980’s and worked part-time at the circulation desk before returning to teaching.  In 2014, she finished three terms as a member of the Friends of the Library and is currently serving on both the Library’s Literacy Committee and Museum Committee as well as organizing and directing the monthly meetings of the Open Afternoon Book Club.

Debbie McCullough moved to Cazenovia from Massachusetts with her family the week before the Blizzard of ’66.  After 25 years as an educator, she retired in 2010 from Burton Street Elementary School but has continued her involvement there as a Literacy Coach with the “Response to Intervention in Literacy” program.  She’s also a member of the International Reading Association and has participated in fundraising for the American Diabetes Association.

Karl Schnitzler’s banking community assignments have afforded him the opportunity to serve on a variety of organizations—Junior Chamber, Lions, Kiwanis, and Rotary.  He has also been president of the Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Livingston County Red Cross, chairman of the Livingston County United Way Allocations Committee, and director of the Geneseo Foundation.  He is currently the treasurer for CAVAC and serves on the Syracuse District Golf Association Board.

These individuals are replacing outgoing Trustees Hugh Henderson, Sara Mitchell, and Eric Johnson, whose dedication and many contributions to the Cazenovia Public Library are greatly appreciated.

Serving as officers for 2015 are Joan Brooks and Tom Ward as president and vice-president with Cynthia Cherny as secretary and Lawrence Tully as treasurer.

The Cazenovia Public Library is open from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. weekdays and 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturdays.  Come often and stay late.  We love having company.
