(Canastota, NY – March 2015) The International Boxing Hall of Fame recently announced two-division world champion and standout trainer James “Buddy” McGirtis set to participate in festivities planned for the 2015 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend June 11 to 14.
“From his championship reigns in the ring to his great work in the corner, Buddy McGirt has dedicated his life to the ‘sweet science,’” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are very much looking forward to his return to Canastota in June for the weekend celebration.”
Fighting out of Brentwood, NY, McGirt is the former IBF junior welterweight and WBC welterweight champion. He holds wins over Saoul Mamby, Frankie Warren, Howard Davis, Jr., Livingstone Bramble and Simon Brown. During his career he posted a 73-6-1 (48 KOs) record. Now a highly respected trainer, he has worked with such fighters Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver, Nate Campbell and Matthew Macklin among many others.
